Uber announced today it was acquiring Hong Kong e-hail taxi platform FlyTaxi, as part of its commitment to growing the taxi industry and providing greater economic opportunities to drivers.

The acquisition is part of Uber’s continued investment in the taxi industry in Hong Kong and brings together FlyTaxi’s trusted local expertise with Uber’s cutting-edge technology and operational experience. It aims to accelerate growth of the taxi industry in Hong Kong, and underscores the city’s role as a key regional mobility hub.

FlyTaxi is a mobile taxi app that connects riders and drivers. Locally built, it was one of the first Meter Taxi E-hail platforms in Hong Kong and has been widely adopted by drivers and riders since its launch 13 years ago.

Following today’s announcement, FlyTaxi will continue to operate as normal and there will be no change for drivers and riders using the FlyTaxi or Uber apps.
